Biography

Described as “exceptionally versatile and creatively profound,” Luca Bertaglia has become a dynamic force in the New York City music scene. Known for his extreme range of dynamics—seamlessly shifting from the subtlest textures to explosive intensity—he brings rare sensitivity and power to every performance. His artistry blends acoustic instruments with electronic sounds and interactive visuals, forging a forward-thinking approach to contemporary music.

Equally at home in contemporary jazz, rock, funk, indie folk, progressive fusion, and experimental music, Luca’s ability to explore new sonic territories has led him to collaborate with a wide range of artists. His achievements include winning FestivalShow with the original song Verde from the band Attika, being a Top 10 Finalist in the National Pearl Project 108, and composing soundtracks for the TV mini-series (Red) Pawn. His band, The Motor Tom, gained recognition for their track Elizabeth Browning, featured in the series The Affair and Darknet.

His career has taken him to renowned venues, from The Brooklyn Bowl and Mercury Lounge to Highline Ballroom and SXSW. Internationally, he has toured Europe with Astra The 22’s, performing at major festivals like LABA DABA and Summer Sound while being featured on international radio and TV platforms. As a sought-after collaborator, Luca has worked with artists such as Barabás Lőrinc, The Muffin Man Orchestra, No Sailor, The Motor Tom, and Astra The 22’s, among many others.

Beyond performing, he leads his own projects—OPPOSITE, Flare, and The Luca Bertaglia Mind Project—pushing creative boundaries through composition and innovation. His work as a recording artist includes contributions to numerous albums on Rexius Records and Hard Pack Records.

Luca’s musical journey took a pivotal turn when he relocated to New York City from Italy in December 2013, immersing himself in diverse musical styles and expanding his creative vision. His formal training includes a degree in Contemporary Music Performance from The Collective School of Music and a Bachelor of Fine Arts with honors in Jazz & Contemporary Music from The New School.

He refined his craft under the mentorship of world-class drummers and luminaries, including Marcus Gilmore, Eric Harland, Mark Guiliana, Ari Hoenig, and Arthur Hnatek.
